Specialist medical treatment for young girl

By Mexico team | Project leader

A twelve year old girl has a dream. She wants to become a nurse or to join the military.  Once she has graduated her hope is to continue studying in order to achieve her goal.

Unfortunately at the age of eight, she was diagnosed with Moyamoya, a condition that affects arteries at the base of the brain. With this condition, the arteries narrow which, restricts blood flow to the brain and eventually leads to life changing affects such as strokes and vision loss. It is a condition that needs constant monitoring and treatment.

Unfortunately, she is now unable to move her right arm due to the condition. Costly surgery is her best chance of improvement.

The parents must regularly travel 40 kms with her, on public transport, for treatment and monitoring. They miss work, and therefore income. It is an extremely stressful situation for the whole family. The financial and emotional burden on the family is significant and they work several jobs to try to cover the cost of travel and treatment.

Moyamoyo is a rare disease. Raising awareness of the condition will have a long-term impact on everyone who is diagnosed or is yet to be diagnosed.  More understanding of the condition can lead to increased knowledge of treatments and open up more access to more research and funding Increasing awareness is important.

At present, we have raised over 500 USD to support treatment and transport to the treatment centre.

It's a good amount and is very welcome assistance for the family.  However, the best chance for this young girl is to receive frequent and ongoing treatment. Any support will be much appreciated.

We hope we can support thiis young, positive community member to be well enough to achieve her dreams.

Thank you for your support.
