Holiday Update
By Tyson Conteh | Director
Dear GlobalGiving Community,
Welcome to December, the very last month of the year. As we come to the end of this year I want to share an update to my project Speaking Shrough Dreams but first to send this little message of love for all our supporters out there who have been with us all through these years. You guys are amazing. I know we've all been challenged over the years, and economically this year is no exception. All of you, our supporters are the real heroes who find a way to support the creative work of other and allow it to come to lif. We can't thank you enough therefore, I wish you all a merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year!
My project Speaking Through Dreams is still seeking funds to make the feature-length documentary version and we also have some exciting news. I have been commissioned to create a film for BBC Africa Eye which look at the issue of FGM in my country and tell a bit of my personal story. I am very proud of this project, and it motivates me, even more, to want t complete the feature-length version to due justice, spiritually, emotionally and personally for myself and for Fatmata and her family. =
Thank you all, and once again Happy Holidays!
Tyson.

Summer Update

Dear GlobalGiving Community,
The Speaking through Dreams project has been long in the making but everyday stories keeps unveiling themselves to me which continues to make me more motivated to tell this story to the best of my abilities.
Sometime last year, 12 years old Marie died in the same way as my beloved Fatmata. It is also shocking to know that is actually the second child of her parents to die in two years in the hands of the same FGM initiation ritual.
I have recently traveled two times to this town called Mile 91 where the family stays. Our team has done interviews and observation filming with both parents, human rights activists who were involved on this issue and the police. I am going to highlight these stories in a BBC Africa Eye broadcast hour and we are going into edit mid-August this year. We plan to launch this important story to the world and follow up with our feature-length early next year.
Please continue to support this project and help us begin to shine a light on what is happening. i know these will be life saving efforts.

Hello GlobalGiving Supporters,
I am happy to report I have been commissioned to create a television hour with BBC Africa Eye looking at FGM in Sierra Leone and the story I am telling with Speaking through Dreams. My team could not be more thrilled to bring attention to this topic, together in partnership with such an amazing program and broadcaster. I want you all to know that am still intending to create a hybrid feature-length film titled Speaking Through Dreams, and ask that you continue to join me on this new journey.
Unfortunately, in Sierra Leone, more stories of women who have died as a result of cutting are still happening and our project is also going to shine a light of these stories, like what happened to Maseray who like my Fatmata died back in December 2021. She left a five months old son and a four year old daughter (please see attached photo). I remain as committed as ever and making sure lives are not negatively affected by this practice will continue to be my motivation.
Sincerely,
Tyson
