SolarCity: High Powered Solar Panels in Dumaguete

Foundation University continues to hold online classes and skeletal working schedules due to another surge of Covid - 19 cases in Dumaguete City.  Government has again declared an extension of a Modified Enhanced Quarantine in the city.

In addition,  the Philippines where Dumaguete City is at, was on the path of two of the strongest typhoons of 2020.  Typhoon Rolly and Typhoon Ulysses.  At the wake of both typhoons raging one after the other,  long hours of power outages were a steady occurrence.  Power generated from the solar panels has saved the university from experiencing such.  This has led to continuous skeletal operations during the daytime while saving its electronic equipments and fixtures from damage.

There is a glimmer of hope for the university as it continues its strife to achieve its goal of being 100% solar powered not only to reduce electricity costs but by savng the environment by reducing the earth's carbon footprint.

The novel Corona Virus (COVID - 19) has disrupted the lives of every individual globally bringing uncertainties, forcing countries to observe government mandated lockdowns and quarantine.  This has brought about drastic modifications to each sector in the community in response to this deadly threat.

Among the most affected by this outbreak is the global educational system which does not spare Foundation University from.  In the Philippines, the Department of Education has been trying its best to address the concerns of parents, teachers and students.  Although the university has been fortunate enough to have finished the academic year 2019 - 2020 a week before the enhanced community quarantine was declared in the province of Negros Oriental, where it is located.

The whole two (2) months of the summer, minors of age 0-20 were not allowed to go out of their homes with the government mandated 24 hour curfew.  while enhanced community quarantine was being effected throughout the country schools were also ordered a 100% closure affecting all students and teachers and employees at the same time.

The university had no source of income at all while utility bills kept piling up but it was necessary to maintain its upkeep which needed power generation.    The solar power of the university, though not 100% yet, has contributed so much in the savings of electricity bills that other expenses may be accommodated.

Again, the gear towards become 100% solar powered has served its purpose of saving energy and costs during this time when the nation and the world needs solutions while reducing the earth's carbon footprint.
