There are challenges we face with the erratic change in our climate. Solar energy is not exempted from going through these changes.
Sunlight inconsistency and extended periods of rain brought about by the susceptibility of typhoons bring about frequent cloud cover which can reduce solar energy generation. Foundation University is located in Dumaguete City, a coastal area with high humidity which is a factor for rapid wear and tear of solar panel components not to mention the salt water corrosion. Just recently, Mt. Canlaon a nearby volcano in Negros Island showed signs of eruption and has been spewing volcanic ash and dust which also reduces the absorption of sunlight due to the ashfall.
While Dumaguete City experiences these erratic changes in climate leading to unpredictable weather, it poses challenges to the implementation of solar energy, Foundation University manages its solar project through more technological adaptations so it may advance itself towards a more resilient, sustainable and reliable energy solution.
