VIP recently purchased an additional 504 new lanterns capable of charging mobile phones for distribution to new villages in rural Liberia. These new lanterns will be distributed in two new counties (Cape Mount and Lofa). The lanterns are now being shipped to Liberia and are expected to arrive by the end of December 2017.
I plan to travel to Liberia in January and will assist in the distribution of these new lanterns. In addition, I will also distribute 360 new lanterns donated by Panasonic to school teachers, nurses in rural clinics, and Ebola orphanages. I will spend time also surveying towns and villages where we've already supplied lanterns to gauge and measure impact.
Another reason for my visit will be to launch VIP's clean cookstove project by piloting the use of manufactured rocket stoves alongside traditional three-stone cooking methods. The field tests will utilize various protocols to demonstrate how our stoves perform with local cooks, foods, practices, and fuels. The water boiling test will be used to measure how efficiently a stove uses fuel to heat water in a cooking pot and the amount of emissions produced while cooking compared to the traditional cooking methods. The controlled cooking test will measure stove performance in comparison to traditional cooking methods when a cook prepares a pre-determined local meal.
Village Improvement Project, Inc remains grateful for your support. Please share our projects with your friends and family. All donations to VIP will help communities in LIBERIA access zero-cost energy in a sustainable way.
