Soapmaking Program - Health & Income for Refugees

Hello our dear friends and supporters,

 On behalf of Darfur Women Network, I am so pleased to share with you some information regarding our project “ Soapmaking for Health & Earning Income” First of all, I would like to thank you for your support and for your generosity to support the project that benefit the survivors of genocide in Darfur Refugee camp in Chad.

 Regarding progress, we are still on the same point. We have women in the camp; they were trained very well to make soap. However, we haven’t yet are able to afford the materials that needed to start their economic empowerment project to produce soap for the refugees there.  However, lack of income to purchase soap  is critical. Children their have no toys ;they pay with sand to build  dream houses. Washing their hands is challenging, so we trying to do our best to reach out to our donors to help us to connect the project with their families and friends to help.

 We are still working diligently to provide the materials below:

Materials that are needed for soapmaking project:

• Rubber gloves
• Goggles for protection from the hazardous chemicals-cannot be found locally)
• Soap Cutter ( Manua- a soap cutter is used to cut the soap into bars, cannot be found locally)
• Soap Mixing Tools 
• Soap Maker Scales
• Soap Molds 
• Soap Molds 
• Sodium hydroxide

The Darfur Women Network participates in Spirit & Place event on November 2016 and will demonstrate soapmaking and cutting to have people experience little side of life in the refugee camps.  Then, will follow with fundraiser to enable us to produce soap to achieve our goal.

Happy New Year to all of you, our dear donors! I wish you a successful and peaceful year!  I am so glad to talk to you again, to learn about the Soap Making project, and what we need to help us to reach our distention.

The Darfur Women Network (DWN) is grateful for its partnership with GlobalGiving and its support, connection, and referral. The DWN believes that with your support and GlobalGiving partnership the survivors will receive the materials that they need to make soap to achieve our shared goal.

I wish that 2016 will be a year of peace to all the survivors of Darfur genocide. They are still hoping that we will be able to get ingredients for them. They have no soap or money or source of money. Those survivors’ women, who produce Safe Stoves for Darfur women Network, are able to purchase soap because they earn money from our economic empowerment project.

During the year-end-campaign, we are able to raise $150. We are grateful for the generosity of our donors and supporters. We are still seeking soap making ingredients and materials to produce soap. The four soap production teams are waiting for our generous donors to secure these materials to help them with personal hygiene. The needed materials are

• Sodium hydroxide
• Soap Molds -  a traditional wooden soap mold
•  Soap Drying Trays
• Soap Maker Scales
•  Soap Mixing Tools (Use a container made out of heat resistant material only when making soap)
•  Safety Equipment (rubber gloves and goggles for protection from the hazardous chemicals)
• Soap Cutter (Manual) - a soap cutter is used to cut the soap into bars.

Now, the survivors of Darfur genocide are in need to produce soap more than ever.
