This project will set up an Area-Wise Wireless Network of Information Dash boards placed in community meeting centers, programmed in local languages to provide timely information to at least 1000 rural farmers. Farmers to be trained to access information displayed as text, audio and videos to help acquire techniques for modern production, harvesting and marketing (weather and flood forecasts, maps and landmarks, breeds, soil texture, seeds and seedlings, fertilizers, pesticides, market rates.
On 23rd/march/2013, the president of Uganda intended to dissolve the National Agricultural Advisory Services-NAADS program due to a challenge of high operational costs of reaching rural farmers. The NAADS Executive Director suggested to implement the program and welcomed supportive reforms that can help reach all farmers. The project will provide capability for Timely Information Access by Smallholder Farmers to facilitate effective decision-making for modern production, harvesting and markets.
Will set up Information Dashboards programmed in the local languages at the farmers meeting centers and identify group representatives to help in training and monitoring other farmers in the local languages. Will train farmers how to use dashboards to access modern and timely information displayed as text, audio and videos. Will form community market for local farmers products. Will continuously monitor and do financial literacy training to encourage domestic savings.
The project will create awareness for modern production, harvesting and marketing techniques that will lead to improved levels of Agricultural products, land and labor productivity and make a lasting impact such as: Increased farm business units, innovations and research, community markets boosting sales and savings for household income, health care, and Reduction in:- crime rates, malnutrition rates due to food security, school dropouts and illiteracy, domestic violence, teenage pregnancies
