PROJECT: BUILD Smallholder Farmers Information Dashboards in Uganda

 

The project under name “BUILD Smallholder Farmers Information Dashboards in Uganda” to strengthen capacity for timely information access by smallholder farmers using information dashboards as a requirement for timely and effective decisions for production, marketing, post-harvest management and transport.

  

CELEBRATED OUTCOME- Quarter3-4 JULY-DECEMBER 2025 Achievements

More 100 individuals in refugees and host community out of the target 1,000 also started enjoying access to the latest information for production in the last 6 months (quater3-4 Jul-Dec 2025) and started benefiting in Information dashboards placed at in the second community center that display text, audio and videos that help farmers acquire techniques for modern production and harvesting, weather and flood forecasts, maps and landmarks, animal breeds, soil texture, crop seeds and seedlings, fertilizers, pesticides, land preparation, irrigation practices, market rates, market locations and transport meansin Kiryandongo and Nakivale refugee settlements and Nakasongola Refugee host community in Uganda.

 

The project now boosts farmers productivity and savings for households Incomes as a need for supporting economic recovery in refugee and host communities through information dissemination displayed by information dashboards.

Completed Activities- Quarter3-4 July - December 2025.

  • Continued community/Beneficiaries identification, consultation and sensitization in 6pilot famers sub zones.
  • Continued sensitization of community leadersin 6 pilot famers sub zones.
  • Training oftarget group representatives.
  • Acquisition of 2 more information kiosks machine-dashboard.
  • Set up of 2 more Information dashboard in 2 community/meeting center, programmed in local language to enable effective communication. Information is currently accessed through removable disks inserted in the information dashboards.

Planned Activities for Quarter1-2 Jan-June 2025

We target Continuous empowering for Central Information Update Center and wireless connection to the Information Dashboards in the community centers to ensure timely access to the same information from professional consultants.

  • Set up of Information Dashboard UPDATE Center and configure wireless connection to the 2 information dash boards/kiosks machine (programmed dashboards in local language) in the 2 community centers.
  • Commence visual/video Content development by the Agriculture sector consultants for professional information.

 

Next Quarter3 (July-Sept 2025) BUDGET SUMMARY- USD 30,000

BUILD Smallholder Farmers Information Dashboards in Uganda (USD 30,000) Targeting contiouns support and empowering for Central Information Update Center and wireless connection to the Information Dashboards in the community centers.

Existing Challenges:

  • Limited funds for acquisition of Information dashboards, research, mobilization and monitoring tools.
  • Slow decision making by authorities in providing secure community meeting centers to facility faster setting up information access centers.
  • Ineffective community mobilization facilities-use one mobile pickup to play recorded mobilization messages.
  • Illiteracy of target persons-they are slow in information/skills interpretation for the displayed information.
  • Communication barriers with the target groups especially the refugees
