DAWN Trains Filipina Returnees and their Families

By Carmelita G. Nuqui | Executive Director

The Development Action for Women Network (DAWN), in partnership with the British Embassy Manila, conducted a series of skills trainings and psychosocial activities for women migrant returnees, survivors of gender-based violence & trafficking and members of their families from January to March 2023.

Through this holistic approach to reintegration, women and members of their families were empowered and transformed from victims to survivors to advocates of their own issues and concerns.

They learned skills on Basic Sewing and Handloom Weaving, where they were able to produce bags, apron skirts, placemats, and coasters. They were also provided with psychosocial activities that will help them cope with life challenges, especially with their experiences as women migrant returnees and members of their families. Activities include counseling and group work activities, which were facilitated by DAWN’s Social Services Program Coordinator, Ms. Crezol Mar L. Navarro, RSW.
