Our Project develops the skills, confidence, and capacity of participants to a level of economic self-sufficiency. Based in SIKHAY, our Alternative Livelihood center, we provide sewing and hand-loom weaving skills training followed by entrepreneurial microenterprise coaching to unemployed Filipino women migrant returnees.
Our project addresses the catastrophic loss of income and associated social costs faced by distressed women migrant returnees, their children, and extended family, who have been repatriated because of the Covid-19 Pandemic. Marginalized and in severe economic stress, these women and girls are highly vulnerable to human trafficking. To date, an estimated 400,000 Filipino women and children have been repatriated since the pandemic began.
Our project specifically targets the conditions of mental, health, marginalization, education, and economic need that make women and girls vulnerable to trafficking. Our vision is to transform these potential trafficking victims into micro business owners. Commencing with alternative livelihood skills training, our participants are guided through the required steps to set up viable and sustainable home-based economic enterprises.
Our project educates and empowers women with the skills and tools to achieve economic independence in their choice of the business model - an independent micro-business, a co-operative business, or remain working with us in SIKHAY - enabling them to sustainably provide for themselves and their families.
