Every child’s safety online is a top priority at Childline Kenya. With the growing presence of children in digital spaces, the need for robust protection tools, knowledge, and systems has never been greater. Thanks to generous support from our development partners, technical partners, GlobalGiving community, and Government partners, we have made incredible strides in equipping professionals, caregivers, and children themselves with the tools to stay safe online.

Together with these partners, we have developed and rolled out four essential resources that are transforming how Kenya responds to Online Child Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (OCSEA):

1. Standard Operating Procedures on OCSEA

These SOPs serve as a national reference point for frontline workers such as child protection officers, law enforcement, social workers, and health providers. They outline clear steps for identifying, reporting, and managing cases of online abuse, establishing a coordinated, survivor-centred approach. By using this guide, professionals can now respond consistently and more effectively across different sectors and counties.

2. Training Manual for the Social Service Workforce

This comprehensive manual builds the capacity of Kenya’s social service workforce to prevent, detect, and respond to OCSEA. Aligned with the National Plan of Action (2022–2026), the manual ensures that OCSEA is integrated into both pre-service and in-service training for social workers. Most importantly, it promotes multi-sectoral collaboration to deliver holistic, child-friendly services to victims.

3. Discussion Cards for Caregivers

Through powerful visuals and interactive illustrations, these discussion cards spark critical conversations between caregivers and communities about how to keep children safe online. These cards have proven especially effective in community dialogues and parenting sessions, helping to bridge the digital gap between adults and the younger generation.

4. Safe Online Guidebook for Children

Developed in a child-friendly format, this guide empowers children to understand digital risks like cyberbullying, grooming, and exploitation. It teaches them about their digital rights and responsibilities, and most importantly, how to seek help by calling the 116 Child Helpline. Thousands of children across Kenya have already benefited from this resource.

Backed by Action: The Helpline That Listens

With the generous donations from our development partners including GlobalGiving partners, Childline Kenya has also been able to:

  • Equip our Child Helpline call centres with trained child therapists and updated equipment
  • Ensure that every call from a distressed child receives a timely and compassionate response
  • Maintain 24/7 availability, offering support to children and caregivers across the country

We are immensely grateful for your support—it is saving lives, restoring hope, and empowering children to thrive in today’s digital world.

Next Steps: Help Us Go Digital!

To reach even more children, families, and frontline workers, we now seek to translate these life-changing resources into online, self-paced learning modules. These digital versions will:

  • Increase accessibility, especially in remote areas
  • Allow for on-demand learning and reference by professionals and caregivers
  • Deepen impact by integrating multimedia, interactive activities, and child-led stories

We are calling on financial and technical partners to support us in this next phase. With your help, we can turn these vital materials into dynamic digital tools that will protect even more children across Kenya and beyond.

Be a Part of This Change

Every bit of support matters. Together, we are creating a safer, more informed digital world for our children.
