Nepal Earthquake of 7.6 Richter scale which had the epicenter of Barpak Village of Gorkha District at 12:56 of Baishakh 12, 2072 (25th April, 2015) caused thousands of deaths and injuries and millions rupees of destruction. The aftershocks continued in the days to come as well. After 18 days of the mega earthquake, on 29th Baishak, 2072 (12th May, 2015) at 12:50 again an aftershock of 6.8 Richter scale striked Nepal which had the epicenter of Dolakha district. The quake affected many districts of mountainous area. Kavrepalanchok district was also badly affected by the aftershock of the quake. All the wards of five municipalities and seventy five VDCs of Kavrepalanchok district were badly affected. It caused 318 casualties and 1179 injuries. 49933 households were entirely damaged and 23714 households were partially damaged.
Civic Forum for Sustainable Development (CIVIC FORUM), an organization registered in Kavrepalanchok has supported fifty households of earthquake survivors to construct the shelter in Banakhu VDC in Kavrepalanchok in support with GlobalGiving Foundation for fund collection.
As we had received some donations in past, in form of matching fund, we were able to distribute more help. What we had done is, we had provided CGI sheet to four additional households in the project area. The help was provided to poor and marginalized household in the area.
Now as we will be able to receive some more help, we will assist the ones we helped before with better construction of their shelters. Since the cold is increasing rapidly, we also aim to help them with keeping their shelters warmer than before. Likewise, we will be able to improve the previous supported shelters to a very large extent. Lastly, we will also assist them to turn their temporary shelters into permanent owns.
