Summary

This project will build earthquake resistant shelters in Kavrepalanchowk District, central region of Nepal for 60 earthquake survivor households. The implementation of this project is envisaged for creating the shelter to enhance their lives and ease to withstand on secure livelihood options on safety means for the earthquake survivors in the project area.We will support the poorest of the poor households who have not able to prepare the shelter, and impose to stay in the open sky.

Challenge

Nepal experienced two major earthquakes on 25th April and 12th May 2015. Kavre is one among the 14 worst affected districts. The casualty & physical damages was intense in Kavre. Approximately 49,933 houses were completely collapsed as well 23,714 households were destroyed. In the recent period many of these pretentious people are imposed to live in open place deprived of safety shelter. In this scenario, the earthquake victims were felt suffocate to sustain their lives.

Solution

This project will provide temporary shelters construction materials like Corrugated Galvanized Iron Sheet (CGI sheet), skilled labor costs for earthquake affected households. This will provide temporary weather-resistant accommodation for 60 earthquake damaged households in project site of Kavrepalanchowk District for creating circumstance to sustain their lives through resuming their normal economic activities such as farming and animal husbandry.

Long-Term Impact

Construction of the earthquake resistance building, especially focusing on the poorest of the poor people, is very essential in project areas. Safe shelter is the means of livelihoods; villagers are busy in the day time for earning activities. If they have the safe shelters, they can involve in the livelihoods. After returning home, they will feel the safe in the sleeping time. Ensuring the safe shelter is the immediate action. After ensuring the safe shelter, people will go for sustainability.
