A range of factors leads to homelessness, job loss, eviction, family tragedy, addiction, domestic violence, a significant health condition, and more. The common denominator is a significant crack in their life foundation.In Lincoln Nebraska we have only one shelter for homeless men, and most of them have no alternative facility where they can get refuge when it is full .Our programs will be multi-pronged and multi-layered, designed to meet people where life has led them. In Lincoln Nebraska, there is a growing number of homeless people with few shelters available. There is only one homeless shelter for men which reaches its full capacity (111 men) every night. This leaves a few people to sleep on the streets. We want to ease this burden by opening a facility to cater to this much needed service. The winter season is here and it gets very cold in Nebraska. This call to action is an emergency. With support from the community we can save someone's life.
At the Casa de la Divina Providencia, our focus is not just about getting people off the street. It is about helping them build a foundation for a changed life. Our program is an intensive program that focuses on the individuals needs and what lead them to such a hard place in their lives. Our program will provide not only a warm environment, but also a place to get the vocational, emotional and spiritual support needed to get back on their feet and be a productive member of society.
The program will serve men who are 18 and older. All participants in the program will receive an Individualized Service Plan (ISP). The ISP shows goals that should be met by individuals in the program.The primary goal will be to help the homeless in finding employment and moving into permanent housing. We also have provide a after-care program which provides continuing services after completing the program.
