Development Alert is proud to share progress from our ongoing initiative to empower young women in rural Uganda through tailoring and entrepreneurship support.
Across many rural communities, young women face limited employment opportunities despite having valuable skills. Tailoring is one such skill—practical, in demand, and capable of generating sustainable income. However, lack of access to equipment and start-up materials continues to hold many back.
With the generous support of our donors, we have successfully supported 9 young female tailors by providing them with brand new sewing machines and start-up fabrics. This support has enabled them to transition from informal, inconsistent work into structured and income-generating businesses.
Impact So Far
- 9 young women have established tailoring businesses
- Increased and more stable household incomes
- Improved confidence, independence, and dignity among beneficiaries
- Creation of local services within their communities
These women are now able to support themselves and contribute to their families. Some have even begun training others, multiplying the impact within their communities.
One beneficiary shared that owning a sewing machine has “changed everything”—allowing her to earn daily, plan for the future, and regain hope.
The Need Ahead
While this progress is encouraging, many more young women are still waiting for the same opportunity. Our goal is to support 100 young female tailors, meaning 91 more are yet to be reached.
Call to Action
We invite you to continue supporting this life-changing initiative. Your contribution will help provide sewing machines, fabrics, and opportunity to young women ready to build their futures.
Together, we can turn skills into sustainable livelihoods—and empower a generation of women to thrive.
