A severe winter storm is impacting millions of people across the United States and Canada, leading to multiple deaths and bringing freezing temperatures, widespread power outages, flood risk, and dangerous wind chills. GlobalGiving's locally based partners are already getting emergency support to those in need. Your donation will go to vetted nonprofits providing emergency storm relief and shelter in multiple locations.
Severe weather affected some 60% of the US population, with deadly blizzards and extreme wind chill. The storm's timing complicated the situation, as many families traveled for the holidays. It is vital to get funds to locally-led nonprofits in affected areas that are helping to meet the need for emergency shelter, clean water and food, and other emergency services. The Fund will support people without homes, the elderly, migrants, and others especially vulnerable in weather emergencies.
All donations to this fund will support severe winter storm Elliott relief and recovery efforts in Canada and the United States. Initially, the fund helps first responders meet survivors' immediate needs for food, fuel, clean water, medicine, and shelter. As needs emerge, we will support longer-term recovery efforts run by local, vetted organizations in impacted areas.

When a disaster strikes, recovery efforts led by people who live and work in affected communities are often overlooked and underfunded. GlobalGiving is changing this reality. Since 2004, we've been shifting decision-making power to crises-affected communities through trust-based grantmaking and support.
We make it easy, quick, and safe to support people on the ground who understand needs in their communities better than anyone else.
They were there long before the news cameras arrived, and they’ll be there long after the cameras leave. They know how to make their communities more resilient to future disasters, and they’re already hard at work. GlobalGiving puts donations and grants directly into their hands. Because the status quo—which gives the vast majority of funding to a few large organizations—doesn’t make sense.
