18 anos como docente en la U.E Jenaro Aguirre / 18 years as a teacher at the Jenaro Aguirre School

English Version/ Versión en inglés

My name is Yeisy, I am 39 years old and I have been a teacher at the Jeraro Aguirre School since September 16, 1998, almost for 19 years. I came to know about the school through their academic coordinator at the time, Professor Ruth, who introduced me to Sister María Luisa Casar. From the beginning, she was warm and kind, and treated me like a daughter. From this moment, she welcomed me to the school and encouraged me to study Education and to strive for greatness.

After so many years working at Jenaro, this school is my home, my family. We are one big “Jenariana” family.

I currently teach Sixth grade, it is a classroom with 38 students but I’ve taught other grades, from first to sixth over the years.

I have come across many students and all of them have left their mark on every corner of the school… and in my life. I have had the opportunity to teach my old student’s children, I’ve watched them grow, and even in the difficult circumstances that they live in, they always seem to find their way back to the school, this time looking to give their children the Christian values and teachings they received themselves.

Jenaro Aguirre does a remarkable job in the “24 de Marzo” community and its surroundings. There are many children that benefit directly from the classes we teach, as well as adults who had taken sewing and computer courses, among others.

The children of Jenaro enjoy quality education and extracurricular activities like music, choir, percussion and English. These activities keep the children busy and prepare them for life in an integral way.

Jenaro provides medical services for the children and people of the community such as dental, Ob/gyn, general and pediatric medicine. The services are free of charge for children, and the adults pay a small fee.

Thanks to the pediatric and nutritional services, the school has been able to help children with dietary deficiencies recover, providing nutritious meals and dietary plans especially for them.

I’ve had many satisfying experiences with each of the students; a recent one I can recall was a project by the past 2015-2016 sixth grade class. The students were asked to prepare a project about their life goals for the next 10 years, and with the help of their teachers, prepared a presentation for their parents.

Another great experience was a trip to the National Assembly.  Listening to them speak about their country with such a sense of belonging and the analytical way they discussed about the proposals in the Assembly.

It is very gratifying to know that our students leave with deep rooted values and vision for the future. To see them go on to the University, knowing what they want in life and starting a family is the greatest satisfaction I can get as a teacher.

In short, Jenaro Aguirre School is important for the community of the “Barrio 24 de Marzo” and its surroundings, because it provides quality education based on Christian human values, and those of us who call it home are dedicated to shaping human beings that are able to get ahead in life, giving them confidence in themselves, pushing them to be better every day.

Jenaro is so valuable thanks to Sister Maria Luisa and her team’s work in the Foundation, which manages to raise funds for meals, medicine and clothes for our children and often for the whole community, always helping the needy.
