Currently, this project has raised a little more than $1900.00 US dollars which means we have fully funded one child and are about one third of the way to funding a second child through our Global Giving platform. We are so very thankful for all those who have taken the time to give this year. Each year we are faced with deciding how many children we can take on because of their financial need. The process is hearwrenching at times. How do you tell a mother you have no funds for her child to go to school?
As a non-profit organization, Ambergris Caye Elementary School tries in some way to fund as many children as we can. This year we are in one way or another funding 15 students who would otherwise not be able to attend our school and in many cases would not be able to attend any school due to lack of funding or available space. Living in the United States and many other countries around the world people assume that education is free and gauranteed by the government. However, in many third world and developing countries this is just not the case. Government funds are not always available, so schooling comes at a cost to the parents. Even when government funds are available, often there just aren't enough government funded schools to provide the space for all children, so again the parents have to pay for private education.
Sometimes the only way for a child to attend school is for others to give and sponsor a child. It is so important to all of us that the next generation of children are educated, children are the future. What better way to ensure a better tomorrow than to sponsor a child today!
