A Warm and Fuzzy Place...

What wrinkles your heart??
What wrinkles your heart??

Every school faces the challenge of how to improve behaviors.  At Ambergris Caye Elementary school we have chosen to take a proactive approach to improving behavior.  Rather than waiting for negative behavior to manifest itself and the try to change or modify behaviors we work with the Positve Action Program to teach children to think before they act.

Positive Action is a systematic educational program that promotes an intrinsic interest in learning and encourages cooperation among students. It works by teaching and reinforcing the intuitive philosophy that you feel good about yourself when you do positive actions.

The effects of the program range from increased academic achievement to dramatic reductions in problem behaviors. Each and every day starts with a Positive Action lesson which teaches the children how to "think, act and feel" about themselves. The whole premis is if you think about what you say or do and make sure it is a positive action, you will feel good about yourself and others will feel good about you.

Making the program an interactive process where all the children learn together they all know that their actions affect others in some way.  They learn that their actions can "put a wrinkle" in someone else's heart and thereby make a wrinkle in their heart.  As the children fold their paper hearts they visually see their hearts getting smaller and smaller. they learn to use positive actions to take the wrinkles out of their hearts and make them bigger again.

Daily committment to this program has improved overall behaviors on campus and gained recognition for ACES as a "Child Friendly Community School".  Positive action along with teaching diversity and acceptance of other cultures and inclusion for children with special needs has made Ambergris Caye Elementary School ""A Warm and Fuzzy Place"!

Each year ACES has children who need financial help to sponsor them for another school year.  This year Alajandra is one of those children.  You can make a difference in a child's life by helping to provide an education. Your donation goes directly to the child's tuition and supplies, because of people like yourself children like Alejandra will continue to thrive.
