This project will allow Baru Students to study for a year technical careers such us Table & Bar, Cuisine and Accommodation, at the Training and Entrepreneurship School of the Island. The Hernan Echavarria Foundation has partnered with other organizations to design, build, equip and operate a Training School for the Baru Island people which will train them in various skills related to tourism and construction, to attend the touristic and real state demand.
Baru is located in an area of great touristic potential, but is one of the poorest sectors of Cartagena, with the highest levels of poverty and unemployment. Most of its inhabitants carry on occupations empirically, without any training. There is a major tourist development planned for the Island that will generate many job opportunities, so it is very important to qualify the workforce so that they can have formal jobs. Going to the Training School is very expensive because of the distance.
The project will provide transportation to the Students interested in attending the Training and Entrepreneurship School the Foundation with other organizations are building in Santa Ana, the nearest town to Baru, in which they will be trained in various skills related to tourism and construction. This way, they will have access to a big range of job opportunities.
The project will allow students from Baru town to attend to the Baru Island Training and Entrepreneurship School, to be trained in different skills such as Cuisine and Table & Bar. This way, they will qualify to many job opportunities related to tourism and construction and they will have access to formal jobs to increase their incomes and therefore their and their families quality of life.
