This project will allow Baru students to study technical careers such us Table & Bar and Cuisine, at the Training and Entrepreneurship School of the island and to study the technological career in Shipping and Port Management. The Hernan Echavarria Foundation has partnered with other organizations to design, build, equip and operate a Training School in order to train Baru people in various skills and also, to give 40 scholarships to study Shipping and Port Management with Unitecnar.
Baru is located in an area of great touristic an port potential, but is one of the poorest sectors of Cartagena, with the highest levels of poverty and unemployment. Most of its inhabitants carry on occupations empirically, without any training. The tourist and port sectors in the island and in Cartagena, generate many job opportunities, so it is very important to qualify the workforce so that they can have formal jobs. Going to School in Santa Ana is very expensive because of the distance.
The project will provide transportation to the students interested in attending the Training and Entrepreneurship School located in Santa Ana, in which they will be trained in various skills related mainly to tourism and administration. It will also provide with a transportation stipend, the students that won 40 scholarships to study Shipping and Port Management with Unitecnar in Santa Ana. This way, they will have access to a big range of job opportunities.
The project will allow students from Baru town to attend to the Baru island Training and Entrepreneurship School, to be trained in different skills such as Cuisine and Table & Bar. Also, to attend their classes in Shipping and Port Management (technological career with Unitecnar). This way, they will qualify to many job opportunities and they will have access to formal jobs to increase their incomes and therefore their and their families quality of life.
