1. Introduction

This project was designed as a short-term intervention aimed at supporting vulnerable children in Yala by providing basic educational materials and mentorship. Vulnerable children — especially orphans, those from displaced families, and economically disadvantaged homes — often lack access to essential learning tools, making their educational journey difficult.

2. Objectives of the Project

To provide essential school supplies to at least 20 vulnerable children.

To raise awareness among parents/guardians on the importance of consistent education.

To offer a short mentoring session to motivate the children to stay in school.

3. Beneficiaries

Number of Children Supported: 20

Age Range: 6 – 14 years

Selection Criteria: Children identified through community leaders, local schools, and faith-based groups as vulnerable due to poverty, displacement, or orphanhood.

4. Activities Carried Out

4.1. Identification of Beneficiaries

We collaborated with community leaders and teachers to identify the most vulnerable children in need of support.

4.2. Procurement of Educational Materials

The following materials were purchased and distributed:

 Exercise Books

 School Bags

 Pairs of Sandals

 Sets of Stationery (pens, pencils, erasers, rulers)

 Mathematical Sets

4.3. Distribution Event

A small community event was held to distribute the materials. Short motivational talks were delivered by a local teacher and a youth leader, emphasizing the value of education.

4.4. Parent Engagement

Parents/guardians were sensitized on the importance of supporting their children’s education and encouraged to keep them in school.

5. Impact and Outcome

20 children were equipped with school supplies, helping reduce financial strain on their families.

Children expressed excitement and gratitude, boosting their motivation to attend school.

Parents acknowledged the support and pledged to prioritize their children’s education.

The project generated positive feedback from the local community and schools.

6. Challenges
Limited funding restricted the number of children we could support.

Logistics delays in getting all materials on time.

Need for continued support for long-term impact.

7. Recommendations & Way Forward

Future projects should aim for increased funding to reach more children.

Regular follow-up and mentorship programs can be included.

Partnerships with local schools and NGOs can strengthen the impact and sustainability.

Despite limited resources, the project succeeded in making a positive difference in the lives of 20 vulnerable children. Continued efforts, even at small scales, are vital in ensuring that no child is left behind in Nigeria’s educational development.

The initiative has positively impacted the education and well-being of hundreds of children, ensuring they have access to the resources necessary for their academic success. 1. Project Objectives: - To provide scholarships to at least 200 vulnerable children to facilitate their enrollment and retention in school. - To distribute school materials, including uniforms, textbooks, and sandals, to promote education among the target population. - To enhance community awareness and support for education, specifically for vulnerable children. 2. Target Beneficiaries: - Vulnerable children from low-income families, orphans, and those facing significant socio-economic challenges in Northern Cross River State. - Approximately 200 children, primarily aged 6 to 12 years, have been supported through this project. 3. Activities Conducted: - Scholarship Provision: We implemented a structured scholarship program that provided financial support for school fees and related expenses. - Material Distribution: Schools were supplied with uniforms, educational materials, and sandals. Distribution events were organized to ensure transparency and community involvement. - Monitoring & Evaluation: Regular assessments of participant progress and school attendance were conducted to evaluate the impact of the scholarships and materials provided. - Community Engagement: Workshops and meetings were held with parents and community leaders to emphasize the importance of education and encourage local support for vulnerable children. 4. Challenges Encountered: - Economic Constraints: Many families struggled with economic instability, affecting their ability to support their children even with scholarships. - Access to Schools: Some villages had limited access to quality educational facilities, requiring additional support to ensure children could attend school. - Cultural Barriers: In some areas, traditional practices hindered the education of girls, necessitating targeted advocacy efforts. 5. Outcomes and Impact: - Increased Enrollment and Retention: There was a significant increase in enrollment rates, with over 85% of scholarship recipients remaining in school throughout the academic year. - Improved Academic Performance: Teachers reported improved performance among supported students due to better attendance and access to educational resources. - Enhanced Community Support: Community awareness about the value of education for vulnerable children increased, leading to greater local involvement and support. 6. Future Plans: - Expand the scholarship program to include vocational training for older children. - Increase partnerships with local schools and organizations to improve educational resources. - Continue advocacy efforts to address cultural barriers and improve community support for all children’s education. 7.
