Many girls living in poverty may stop going to school, so they can work to help their parents and provide foods for their families, which leaves them without literacy and numeracy skills they need to further their careers. YKIP plans to provide a 3-year scholarship for 15 girls from disadvantaged families in Bali to complete their 12-year education and graduate from senior high school. The scholarship cost will include school fees, uniform, school supplies, daily allowances, and a workshop.
More than 4,14 % of people in Bali earn less than $1 a day. Often it's difficult to get enough money together to cover food and rent, let alone something as extravagant as a school. If a family can afford to send a child to school, the chosen child is almost always a boy. In Bali, 6,04 % of girls are forced into marriage before they turn 16 and teenage pregnancy is also one of the most common reasons for dropping out of school. Many girls in Bali get pregnant because of the lack of education.
Education can change everything. Therefore, we provide a scholarship for girls from disadvantaged families so they can graduate from senior high school, find a better job with a decent income, and help their families break the vicious cycle of poverty.
The project will support 15 girls in Bali within 3 years to complete their 12-year education and graduate from senior high school, allowing them to rise out of poverty and improve their families' health and well-being.
