Scholars Program (U.S. and Nigeria)

2026 will be an exciting year for the A2S scholars program! This year we are adding 35 new slots to serve a total of 100 university students across institutions in Nigeria this year. The majority of our scholars attend the University of Benin, close to our Youth Center. 

Our staff have been hard at work to develop clear career pathways for our scholars. Each student will have the opportunity to evaluate their skills and create a plan to develop across our Workforce Development Workshops to be career ready by the time they graduate. Our workshops have evolved to focus on both hard and soft skills needed in the professional world. We continue to bring in experts and mentors to facilitate these exciting sessions on a quarterly basis.

Hi There,

We are happy to report great success from some pilot programs withing our scholars program this year! In Nigeria, we launched both an in-semester and holiday break internship program. Each program had 5 pilot students earlier this year - all of which completed their internship projects with glowing reviews! We are excited to see how we can grow our pool of local partners and scale this program to offer more widely among our group of 65 university students in our program.

We are all about pilot projects this year. We currently have 3 community impact grants underway as student projects for the rest of this year. Students pitched their ideas on how to solve community problems with a grant. Three were selected earlier this year to move forward with their project, and those three projects are in progress now. We can't wait to share how it goes!
