In our last report we shared with you how two new Village Savings and Loans Associations had been set up. Now we are happy to report that, in addition to these new groups, existing groups are reporting a significant increase in membership of between 20% and 50%, including many men.
This increase can be explained by the ongoing impact of Covid and the associated restrictions, and also from the effects of climate change which has made rainfall in the area very unpredictable. Both of these mean that farmers' income from agriculture is at risk, and the VSLAs offer them the opportunity to access loans for alternative sources of income.
The training and support your donations have paid for help the Associations manage this increase in membership and to continue providing this important service, without further external funding being needed. Thank you!
