Safe Birth Mission Project Report: Every Safe Birth Brings Hope

For many women living in rural and underserved communities across Nigeria, childbirth remains a life-threatening experience. The absence of clean delivery supplies, limited access to skilled healthcare providers, and poor maternal health awareness continue to place mothers and newborns at unnecessary risk. Through the Safe Birth Mission, Divine Act Charitable Trust is working to change this reality by ensuring that every mother has the opportunity to experience a safe and dignified delivery.

This year, your generosity has helped us reach vulnerable women with practical, life-saving support. Working alongside community health workers and Traditional Birth Attendants (TBAs), we distributed clean birth kits containing essential supplies that protect mothers and newborns from infection during childbirth. We also strengthened the capacity of TBAs through practical training on safe delivery techniques, infection prevention, newborn care, and timely referral of complicated cases to health facilities.

Beyond providing birth kits, we engaged families and community leaders in health education sessions that encouraged antenatal care attendance, skilled birth planning, hygiene practices, and recognition of pregnancy danger signs. These conversations have begun to transform attitudes toward maternal healthcare, empowering women to make informed decisions while encouraging families to support safer childbirth practices.

The impact is reflected not only in the number of mothers reached but also in the confidence and hope shared by communities. One beneficiary, a first-time mother from a remote village, told us that receiving a clean birth kit and guidance from a trained birth attendant made her feel protected and respected throughout her delivery. She safely welcomed a healthy baby girl, and both mother and child returned home without complications. Stories like hers remind us that simple interventions can save lives.

Our work has also strengthened relationships between community-based birth attendants and local health facilities, creating better referral pathways for mothers experiencing complications. This collaboration is building a stronger community health system that will continue to benefit families long after the project ends.

Although significant progress has been made, the need remains urgent. Thousands of women still face childbirth without basic supplies or trained assistance. With only a small funding gap remaining, continued donor support will enable us to distribute more clean birth kits, train additional Traditional Birth Attendants, expand maternal health education, and reach more isolated communities where preventable maternal and newborn deaths remain high.

Every contribution represents more than a donation—it is an investment in safer births, healthier families, and stronger communities. Together, we are giving mothers hope, protecting newborn lives, and ensuring that every child has the opportunity to begin life safely.
