Saving Babies in remote Western Uganda – 1st Quarterly Report
We are currently supporting 11 babies with formula milk until the age of 12 months old. The total cost for each baby for a year is approximately 1600US$. Care may be in the community with extended families or at NOTDEC children’s home.
This must cover not only the cost of the milk, which is usually a combination of powder milk and some soya milk. Training is provided to carers who look after the babies in correct feeding techniques. Social workers from NOTDEC are also required to visit homes every month to monitor progress where babies on baby milk are being supported.
Baby A and was brought for admission at NOTDEC for care.
The mother of baby A (24 years) died on 25th April 2025 after giving birth due to Hemorrhage shock that was caused by postpartum hemorrhage from uterine agony.
The district probation officer immediately recommended that since there was no one to take care of the child because the grandparents are chronically ill and everyone around was too emotional caused by the grief for the loss, the child should be admitted for care at NOTDEC children’s home.
Baby A is now under the care of Mother Jesca in house 6 and has been put on Cow and Gate powder Milk for his nutrition, and he is growing well generally.
Thankyou
