1. Overview

During the May–August 17, 2026 reporting period, the Save Eagles in Bangladesh project continued to operate under significant funding constraints. No new donations were received during this period, limiting the project's ability to undertake large-scale activities such as systematic eagle monitoring, rescue and rehabilitation, habitat protection, and scientific research.

Despite the lack of new funding, Green Fund Initiative (GFI), in collaboration with BCSSC and the Department of Forest, continued community-based conservation activities using available organizational resources. The project focused particularly on public awareness, stakeholder engagement, and strengthening local support for eagle conservation.

2. Key Activities and Achievements2.1 Community Awareness and Outreach

Despite the financial limitations, GFI and BCSSC continued awareness activities in the project area. The activities were designed to reach people who regularly interact with wetlands, agricultural areas, forests, and other habitats used by eagles.

Key activities included:

• Conducting community awareness campaigns in the project area
• Organizing public announcements (miking) to reach residents across the local community
• Displaying awareness posters at major public locations to increase visibility of eagle conservation messages
• Sharing information about the ecological importance of eagles and other raptors
• Raising awareness about the risks associated with hunting, trapping, poisoning, and capturing wild birds

These activities helped maintain public attention on the importance of protecting eagles despite the project's limited financial resources.

2.2 Engagement with Government Officials

The project team maintained communication and interaction with government officials and the Department of Forest regarding eagle conservation.

These interactions helped:

• Increase coordination between conservation actors and government stakeholders
• Discuss threats facing eagles and other birds in the project area
• Encourage local cooperation in preventing illegal hunting, trapping, and other harmful activities
• Strengthen the foundation for future collaboration on wildlife conservation

The involvement of government stakeholders is particularly important for developing longer-term conservation measures.

2.3 Engagement with Schools and Children

The project also engaged with school children, teachers, and parents as part of its awareness activities.

Discussions focused on:

• The importance of eagles in maintaining ecological balance
• Protecting birds and their habitats
• The harmful effects of hunting and trapping
• The responsibility of young people and communities to protect wildlife

Engaging children and teachers provides an opportunity to develop long-term awareness and encourage future generations to become more supportive of biodiversity conservation.

2.4 Engagement with Local Communities

The project team also interacted with local residents and community members in the project area.

Community discussions helped identify local perceptions of eagles and wildlife and provided opportunities to explain why eagle conservation is important for maintaining healthy ecosystems.

These interactions also helped strengthen relationships with community members and encourage them to report or discourage activities that may threaten eagles.

3. Partnership and Coordination

During the reporting period, GFI continued its collaboration with BCSSC, a local organization with experience in biodiversity and community-based conservation.

The project also worked in coordination with the Department of Forest, particularly through awareness and stakeholder engagement activities.

The continued partnership demonstrates GFI's commitment to implementing conservation activities through local networks even when dedicated project funding is unavailable.

4. Funding Status and Challenges

The project did not receive any new donations during the May–August 17, 2026 reporting period.

As a result, available resources remained insufficient to implement several important components of the project, including:

• Regular scientific monitoring of eagle populations
• Systematic habitat assessment and protection
• Rescue and rehabilitation of injured or captured eagles
• Training and expansion of community volunteer networks
• Research on eagle populations and threats
• Large-scale conservation interventions

GFI nevertheless used its own organizational resources to continue awareness and community engagement activities so that momentum would not be lost.

5. Impact During the Reporting Period

Although the project could not implement its full planned program, the awareness activities contributed to several important outcomes:

• Increased visibility of eagle conservation issues in the project area
• Continued engagement with local communities
• Strengthened communication with government stakeholders
• Increased opportunities to educate school children, teachers, and parents
• Reinforced community understanding of the ecological importance of eagles
• Maintained local conservation networks despite limited funding

These activities represent important groundwork for expanding conservation interventions when additional funding becomes available.

6. Next Steps

Subject to the availability of funding, GFI and BCSSC plan to:

• Expand awareness campaigns to additional high-risk communities
• Strengthen collaboration with the Department of Forest and other government agencies
• Develop community-based reporting mechanisms for injured, trapped, or threatened eagles
• Strengthen volunteer networks for wildlife protection
• Support rescue, treatment, and rehabilitation of injured birds
• Conduct field monitoring and identify important eagle habitats
• Increase educational activities in schools and communities
• Seek additional donors and institutional funding to implement the project's broader conservation objectives

7. Conclusion

The May–August 17, 2026 reporting period demonstrated the continued commitment of Green Fund Initiative and its partners to eagle conservation despite the absence of new project funding.

Through community awareness campaigns, public miking, poster displays, engagement with government officials and the Department of Forest, and interactions with school children, parents, teachers, and local residents, the project continued to build awareness and grassroots support for eagle conservation.

While funding limitations continue to prevent the implementation of larger-scale rescue, rehabilitation, monitoring, research, and habitat protection activities, these community-based efforts have helped maintain the project's presence and conservation momentum.

GFI and BCSSC remain committed to protecting eagles in Bangladesh and will continue seeking financial and institutional support to expand these efforts and ensure the long-term survival of Bangladesh's eagle species.
