Save children with cancer in Brazil

Here we present the Activity Report from 2015, published on August 2016:

President's Letter:
What a wonderful year it was 2015. Despite the difficulties that the country has gone through, the work was intensified to get all the necessary resources for the operation of the hospital but we cannot forget the great step we took and all the children who could have a new life expectancy because of the service we provide.

There were 3,329 thousand patients attended in 2015 in our hospital, of which 366 were new cases. We performed our 500th Bone Marrow Transplant, inaugurated a prompt service with eight new beds and a center specializing in pediatric neurosurgery. A great step in pursuit of excellence!

Our goal besides cure is to bring our children and adolescents quality of life reducing the chances of having sequel resulting from cancer treatment. We hope each of them can enjoy their journey with satisfaction and joy.

All this is only possible because of donations from partners who believe in the work of the institution and our committed team of employees and volunteers who with great dedication making the work happens.

This Annual Report will show you our 2015 achievements to follow GRAACC's mission and how we are working to continue building a hospital that offers state-of-the-art pediatric oncology medicine, always with the support of society.

In 2016, GRAACC completed 25 years. Taiana is one of the patients who are part of that story. When she was seven years old, she discovered that she had a bone cancer on the right leg (osteosarcoma), but despite that, she decided to live life in a happier way, always looking at to the good side of things.

In the first stage of treatment, Taiana underwent chemotherapy over seven months. Three years later, the disease returned and she had to restart the treatment. That time she had to amputate her leg.

"When I heard that the cancer had returned, I was already waiting for the amputation so I had a few months to prepare myself psychologically. Of course, it was not easy to receive, but I understood that it was necessary. I cried, but I remember telling my parents that I would rather lose my leg than my life ", remember.

Today she is 18 years old and now she lives in her hometown, in Rio de Janeiro, and she has busy schedule. She is a Journalism student, for six years she has been a swimming athlete at Vasco da Gama and has worked on the Rio 2016 Organizing Committee for the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

"I was very well received at GRAACC and even today when I go there for follow-up appointments I am very well treated. The affection, the attention of all, without exception, made the difference in my recovering. The treatment is heavy, but having people who work with care, who perform their function with love and affection makes everything easy."
