In Brazil, there were an estimated 16,000 new cases of cancer in every 100,000 children. Cancer is the first leading cause of death by disease in the population up to19 years. Fortunately, children and adolescents is most susceptible to the effects of chemotherapy and has high potential to cure if diagnosed and treated promptly. With a land area of 8 million km2, most of the available resources in Brazil for the treatment of childhood cancer are very limited.
The GRAACC' Hospital has received children and adolescents from all over Brazil, with an average family income less than $20 per day, especially the more complex and costly cases. The hospital offers medical care, teaching, research and provides accommodation for the families, which ensures continuity to treatment for patients in cities far from Sao Paulo, where the hospital is located. All treatment and any assistance offered by GRAACC have no cost to the patient and their families.
Our hospital attends more than 3.000 children and adolescents each year, from all over Brazil. With the funds raised we can continue the high-level treatment, quality of life, offered to the patient, significantly impacting the cure rates in the country.
