Dear Kind Hearts

Greetings from SANKALP team

New session for 2014-2015 started after summer break on 9th June. Though we had many requests for admission in the new session but we have decided to restrict the total strength of children to 35-36 in this session. 32 have already been confirmed admission and 3 are under observation.

Psychological assessment & pediatric check up of each child has been completed to record the status with respect to the disability level and also to compare the same with last session to check the progress for old children and to design the IEP for each child for the current session. ENT, Dental & Ophthalmic checkups have been planned during the month of August.

As a part of outdoor activity as well as to give them a firsthand experience of Rail transport children were taken for a rail ride. All the children enjoyed it very much which YOU can see from their gleaming faces.

A parent counseling session is also being organized in the month of August. This session is required to guide and educate each parent through special educators & therapists to understand the status of their child and learn to handle them at home. This is very essential because many of the parents are not adequately educated or even literate and therefore, are not able to understand the behavior of their child and how to handle them.

Speech therapy is already being given to the children suffering from speech impairment. One of the child Sudhir who was suffering from hearing loss has been provided with a hearing aid. We are hoping that with the help of hearing aid Sudhir’s progress in understanding & developing language will improve considerably. Speech, Physio and Occupational therapies along with special educators giving Individual Education Plan (IEP) to all children and the diet + Vitamin supplements being given at SANKALP will certainly help in their rehabilitation process in the coming days.

Though the progress has been noted in all children in varying degree, a specific case of 8 year old boy Moin having a mental age of only 3 years and a social age of 2 years & 8 months is worth mentioning. He suffers from Cerebral Palsy, Dysmorphism with mental retardation. We are happy to inform that Moin has shown remarkable improvement against the target fixed in gross motor functions (91%) and considerable improvement in area of occupational therapy (64%). His progress in special education is also reasonably good (52.5%) against the targets fixed. It is therefore, evident that continuous training & rehabilitation plan will yield good result in his overall improvement. We would emphatically say that it is YOU who made all this possible.

Let’s share what his mother has to say:

“Dear Madam, my son is getting very good education and by coming in your school my child has learnt very well. I’m very happy with your school. Madam, maid, driver and all other staff are very good. Whatever further education is available for my child it must be taught. I’ve no complaint from your school. It is very good.” Farzana

Observing positive improvements in the life of children at SANKALP motivates every member of our team and gives us confidence to continue moving towards bringing meaningful change in the lives of these children.

Until the next report a big THANK YOU for your support to our project. We assure you that YOU will be updated on what impact YOUR donation has made & what accomplishments we have achieved from time to time.
