Challenge

In selected communities in Kitgum, Lamwo, Kakumiro, and Kikuube districts of Uganda, at least 7,000 children, family members, teachers, health workers, and community residents may rely on distant, unsafe, unreliable, or broken water sources. Time spent collecting water disrupts learning and livelihoods, while unsafe water, weak sanitation, and limited handwashing increase preventable health risks and reduce dignity.

Solution

Carmel Caring Complex Ltd. will work with communities, schools, local leaders, water technicians, and health workers to assess needs, repair damaged boreholes, develop or upgrade water sources, install tanks, solar pumps, pipelines, taps, handwashing facilities, and sanitation improvements, test water quality, and provide practical hygiene and health education. Local water committees and school groups will help plan, monitor, maintain, and protect the services.

Long-Term Impact

Over time, at least 7,000 people will have safer, more reliable water, improved hygiene, and stronger community health conditions. Children will benefit from healthier learning environments, families will spend less time searching for water, and communities will be better able to prevent water-related illness. Trained local committees, water-quality checks, maintenance plans, and community ownership will help keep services working and extend the benefits to future users.
