Bringing home happiness towards safe motherhood

Dear HLFPPT Supporters,

The numbers don't lie: we are saving more women's lives than ever before. Since the start of the project until now, we have sponsored 103 safe deliveries under our Merrygold Health Network hospitals. We just want to take this time to acknowledge the fact that your generous donations are the reason HLFPPT is having all the great experiences of touching lives for safe motherhood. Because of your generosity, poor pregnant women continue to benefit from the abundant opportunity to deliver safely at Merrygold Health Network Hospitals. We gratefully accept your recent contributions! Thank you.

This time through this report, we would like to share the case story of Renu showcasing some of the implementation challenges we face in delivering services to the poor pockets of population that seem to be left out and beyond the reach.

Renu, age 24 years was pregnant with her first child and her due date was just a few months away. Renu was scared about her delivery as she was experiencing it for the first time. Thus, she decided to deliver at home at her parent’s place.

Renu’s Mother-in-law share: Geeta Devi, a Merrytarang member motivated us to take Renu at MGHN hospital for a safe delivery in a specialized hospital. However, Renu was not comfortable to attend MGHN facility for her delivery. But with the help of her parents and Geeta Devi, we managed to convince Renu for safe institutional delivery at MGHN facility.

Renu share: Initially, I was sceptical about my delivery at the hospital as everyone in my family has been born at home. To make me comfortable Geeta, the Merrytarang didi took me at a Godhbharai Ceremony organized by Merrygold Hospital. In the ceremony discussion on danger signs during pregnancy and birth preparedness was made. This instilled more confidence in me to deliver my first child at MGHN facility. Thanks to the doctor and Geeta didi for bringing tremendous joy in the family.

Thank you all, for your support in ensuring the poor pregnant mothers to have access to care and information. Because of you, we are truly empowering families and bringing more smiles to the mothers and their families.

Progress towards Safe Motherhood

Dear Friends,

We would like to take the opportunity to thank you again for your generous support in the project for a year long time. We continue to make progress towards our goal of safe motherhood to poor women in India. In the year, we have supported 81 safe deliveries of women from poor socio-economic background in rural outskirts of Uttar Pradesh, India at our Merrygold Health Network hospitals.

Through this report, we would like to share the case story of Rani, who delivered safely her first child at the age of 19. Her husband Akhilesh is a driver by profession and is the sole income source in the family. He has the responsibility of not only his wife but also of his old father and his younger brother, who is a student. Akhilesh’s meager salary is the only family earning to manage the daily expenses.

Akhilesh shares: Due to Rani’s pregnancy at an early age of 19, she developed certain complications during her pregnancy. We were worried about her complicated pregnancy. Further, lack of money to consult a doctor for mother & Child care added to our woes of healthy baby. In the mean time I was, introduced to Vimla, a Merrytarang Member who introduced & briefed about the nearest Merrygold Health Network Hospital for seeking ANC and safe delivery care for my wife. I am highly obliged to the network and HLFPPT for sponsoring and providing mother and child care.

Rani Shares: The welcoming behavior of lady doctor made me feel safe during every consultation visit. The ANC health checkup camp and pregnant women meet in my last trimester further prepared me towards a safe motherhood and motivated me to undergo institutional delivery at MGHN hospital. I am highly thankful to lady doctor and Merrytarang didi for helping me deliver my first baby safely.

With the success of this collaboration, we hope to continue our efforts in reaching out to 500 poor women towards safe motherhood under Global Giving Sponsored Safe Deliveries initiative through your funding support.

Thank You To Our Santa Claus for Gifting Safe Births

Dear Friends,

As the year comes to an end HLFPPT would like to share with you how we have progressed together in achieving the goal of safe motherhood. We at HLFPPT would like to extend our heartfelt thank you to all of you for your generous support throughout our project journey.

We are happy to share that with help of your generous donations we have been able to provide pregnancy care and safe delivery services to more than 50 pregnant women from rural poor socio economic background in rural Uttar Pradesh, India.

In this report we would like to share the case of Pinki, wife of Raghunandan, a vegetable hawker. Her husband is alocoholic and as a result to meet her household expenses Pinki works as a domestic helper. His husband wastes most of his earnings on liquor making their living conditions appalling.

Pinki shared her story after her delivery - “This was my pregnancy. Because of economic hardships I had no choice but to continue my job as domestic helper even during my pregnancy. Due to physical hardships and almost no care I developed various complications during seventh month of my pregnancy. Local clinic told me in advance that they won’t be able to deliver me as they have capacity to handle my complications that might arrive during delivery. I didn’t have money to go to big private hospital for delivery. Seeing my condition my neighbor shared her experience with MGHN facility where she had delivered last year. She introduced me to Merrytarang didi of our community. Didi (Sister) helped me to get enrolled for free services and delivery at MGHN facility. This has saved me and my baby girl’s life. I am thankful to Merrytarang Didi for helping me and the delivery service provided at MGHN facility. Though I cannot meet the individual donors who have contributed to making this possible, through HLFPPT I would like to convey my heartfelt thanks to them- they all would also be in my prayers…”

Our village level community mobilizers (Merrytarang members) do a commendable job in creating awareness generation at community level and for referring pregnant women to MGHN facilities. They do regular follow up through household visits, monthly health camps and group meetings.
