No one can live without water and clean and safe water is paramount to our lives. Our project intends to take away the burden from 30 women from needy families in Mutarakwa ward , Bomet County, Kenya under the initiative of rainwater harvesting and storage project. Our project intends to bring clean and safe water closer to their doorsteps. Help us raise $11,000 to provide 30 households in Kenya with clean water tanks.
The people of Mutarakwa ward, Bomet County, depend largely on far off rivers, and unprotected wells for their daily water use. Majority of them also have inadequate storage for rainwater which mostly goes to waste as stormwater drainage. This in turn brings the challenge of lacking convenient access to clean and safe drinking water which adds to issues such as waterborne diseases, time wasted walking several kilometers to the rivers, and not engaging fully in productive activities.
This project intends to provide a durable and sustainable solution in form of 30 water tanks to ensure 30 families who are disadvantaged can optimize storage of rainwater during rainy seasons and be able to still meet their drinking water needs and other uses when there are dry seasons. It will also reduce cases of water-borne diseases and children missing school to go look for water.
The water tanks provision will ease the burden of needy families from walking far looking for drinking water. This will especially make it easier for women and girls who tend to be majorly responsible for ensuring their homes have water. In turn, the girls will have better school attendance and the entire community will have better health and economic outcomes due to access to clean and safe water. The initiative will also promote community participation in ending water challenges.
