The end of the third quarter and the beginning of the fourth and final quarter of 2019 at the AGAPE Center, were first marked by the signature of the contract between the AGAPE association and the company Talco Services, for the construction of the future AGAPE Center. This immediately led to the move of the site for the start of the works. Afterwards, we welcomed a few girls, we have prepared the young for the new school year 2019 - 2020 and organized the ceremony of laying the foundation stone of the future AGAPE Center in Japoma. This period ended by the stay of SOLENCA and the passage of the NHS of the American school.
The AGAPE association having received the last piece that was missing from its big project, namely its building permit, has ratified the signing of the contract for the construction of the future AGAPE Center in Japoma, with the company Talco Services, end of July beginning of August.
Once the contract was signed, the company Talco Services deployed its men on the ground, to proceed with the installation of the site. This resulted in the clean-up of the site, the construction of a construction hut (which houses a store, an office, a rest area, a dormitory and toilets) and a temporary barrier.
The AGAPE Center is committed to helping all disadvantaged young people in difficulty and street children who want to get out of their situation. The AGAPE Center has focused more on boys because they are the ones we see most often in the streets. Girls also have their place in this project. Although it is difficult to mix them, which has always made us think about the question. But we could not be insensitive to the distress of these girls who were threatened to spend a blank year. It is about Olia who had to interrupt her schooling during the last school year, for lack of means to pay her schooling. Laura, Viviane and Didine are sisters. Their daddy passed away and their mom does not have any income generating activity. It became very complicated for them too. We follow them, they come to the center to do their homework and they go home after eating.
The youth of the AGAPE Center have returned to school. They were very excited. This is almost always the case when you go to higher class, when you know that you will learn a new language (German, Spanish, Italian, Chinese), or when you know that there is an examination at the end of the year that awaits us. Thanks to you the academic year started well. The direct sponsorship system paid for the schooling of Oliseh, Melveen, Desire, Olia, Keye, Yanic and Emile. Donations from friends of Oriane, Lions Club Jouvence, the rest of supplies offered by Mrs. Kadji and Camerlux (Association of Cameroonians of Luxembourg) last year, and especially the sponsorship of young people, facilitated their return to school and therefore the start of the 2019-2020 school year. We are now expecting young people to work well and to improve their results.
Through this event, the association AGAPE has passed from dream to reality its largest project. That is of building a reception center more functional and adapted to the needs not only of children currently in care, but also for all those who will add and who will express the desire to seize this hand that has stretched to them : this in order to believe and envision a better future. This ceremony officially marking the beginning of the works, took place on September 20th. Those that were present are, Mr. Nohou Bello at this time Sub-Prefect, the representative of the Littoral Regional Delegate of Social Affairs, the head of the social center of Japoma, friends and supporters of the cause of the association AGAPE and especially Canal 2 International, which made a nice report. It took time to get there ! And things are just beginning.
The members of the association SOLENCA, main partner of the association AGAPE, visit us at least twice a year. Each time we talk about strengthening our collaboration and support for young people. But above all to work together to set up and implement strategies, from the idea of the construction project to its realization. And as far as possible, they bring various gifts to young people. This time again, when they came in October for two and a half weeks, they brought with them clothes, caps (to face the sun at the end of classes), small school materials (pens, pencils), and a football given by the son in law of Maryline (SOLENCA treasurer). These are always pleasant moments of exchange and sharing that young people appreciate a lot.
The National Honor Society (NHS) is a group of the brightest students in the American school who are involved in social action. This group decided to visit the AGAPE Center and its young people. The goal was to establish a first contact, to see how to establish a form of collaboration between the two parties. They did not come empty-handed, and for a first contact, it was really successful! The young people were comfortable and amused as if they had known each other for a long time. They had a good time together.
