Bangladesh's southern coast loses ground every year to cyclones, erosion, and rising seas. OBHIZATRIK Foundation will plant 15,000 native and mangrove trees across coastal embankments in Patuakhali and Khulna - creating a living shield for 70,000 people. For $10, you plant 5 trees. For $2,500, you protect an entire village's shoreline. These trees will still be standing in 2050.
Bangladesh's coastal communities face increasing threats from cyclones, erosion, and rising sea levels. The loss of mangrove forests and natural vegetation has weakened coastal protection, leaving villages, farmland, and embankments highly vulnerable to climate disasters. Thousands of families risk losing their homes, livelihoods, and safety as climate impacts continue to worsen each year.
OBHIZATRIK Foundation will plant 15,000 native and mangrove trees across coastal embankments and riverbanks in Patuakhali and Khulna. The project will use climate-resilient species proven to reduce erosion and cyclone damage. Community members will be trained as tree guardians to ensure proper care, monitoring, and long-term sustainability of the plantations.
The project will help protect more than 20 km of vulnerable coastline and benefit over 70,000 people in coastal communities. The trees will reduce erosion, strengthen embankments, improve biodiversity, and absorb carbon emissions over the long term. The initiative will also create local employment opportunities and build stronger community resilience against future climate disasters.
