AnnieCannons project aims to: Rewrite Futures for Human Trafficking Survivors. It is focused on helping survivors of human trafficking rebuild and lead as the author of the transformative story of their life through their participation in our coding training and career pathways and placement upon completion. Every day, we see courage, resilience, and transformation. And every day, we are reminded that healing is possible when a community steps in to help rewrite the next chapter.
Human trafficking is an enormous and pernicious challenge: more than 1,000,000 people per year experience labor and sexual exploitation in the US alone. The International Labor Organization estimates that 26.7 million people are being trafficked globally. Due to the lack of long-term career options, many survivors of labor and/or sex trafficking are caught in a loop of accessing services followed by re-exploitation.
Financial independence is one of the most critical factors in a survivor's healing journey. In many instances, a job training program that centers survivors' unique needs and leads to high-wage career opportunities can mean the difference between re-exploitation and economic stability. AnnieCannons' long-term goals focus on empowering survivors of human trafficking nationally through comprehensive training and support to build sustainable careers in technology.
By providing coding and technical skills, as well as apprenticeships and job placements, AnnieCannons seeks to create pathways to economic independence for survivors. AnnieCannons strives to scale its programs to improve resource accessibility for survivors nationally, ultimately fostering community resilience and promoting long-term systemic change in the fight against human trafficking.
