Rethinking Down Syndrome in Colombia

With great satisfaction we are finishing the first half of 2012 .We have done many activities during this period and we have come much closer to our community with our message for the inclusion of persons with Down syndrome.

World Down Syndrome Month has been celebrate by us in 2 of the most important universities of Barranquilla, Colombia with the photographic exhibition “Shifting Perspectives”  . Once again pictures have been the perfect tool to teach about diversity and to break misconceptions about People with Down syndrome.

Hand frame, "Don´t leave them out" was the call  we made to invite creatives to produce videos and photos to raise awareness and encourage inclusive education. College students, professionals and lovers of visual arts and graphics showed off their talents. The winners of the Contest were Christian Carroll with his video “ A Big Step” and Karen Baldovino with her photo “ Sun ,Art and a Sunday Smile “

On March 24 we hosted a Cultural performance. The event began with the presentation of the Global Video I want to learn    and The Symphony Orchestra of the British School of Barranquilla, followed by the presentation of the Clown sketch of the theatrical circus : Clowdestino by Vivaditeatro which made vibrate children and adults. Families had the opportunity to share and spend a wonderful afternoon. 

We also hosted the Conference - Inclusive    Education: Possible? Convenient? Mandatory? led by  Dr. Jorge Eslava, Director of the Colombian  Neuroscience Institute. Around 220 people including parents and teachers attended the event and enjoyed not only the conference but also the presentation of the theater group of the foundation.

Once again we thank people like you who made this possible and we invite you to continue supporting our work to build a better world for persons with Down syndrome.

 We need  the final push to reach our goal!  with only USD 3500 more we will have achieved. Today we  are inviting you to donate to our project "Rethinking Down syndrome in Colombia "  next June 13 when Global Giving will give us an additional 40% on value of your contribution.

Con gran satisfacción  estamos terminando el primer semestre  de 2012. Hemos realizado muchas actividades en este período y nos hemos acercado mucho más a la comunidad con nuestro mensaje para la inclusión de las personas con síndrome de Down.

Estuvimos celebrando el mes mundial del síndrome de Down en 2 de las universidades más importantes de Barranquilla, Colombia, con la exposición fotográfica "Cambiando Perspectivas". Una vez más, las fotografías  han sido la herramienta perfecta para enseñar acerca de la diversidad y romper conceptos erróneos acerca de las personas con síndrome de Down.

Encuadre:” No los dejes por  fuera" fue el llamado que con gran éxito  hicimos para invitar a los creativos para  producir videos y fotografías que ayuden a crear conciencia y fomentar la educación inclusiva. Estudiantes universitarios, profesionales y amantes de las artes visuales y gráficos mostraron su talento. Los ganadores del concurso fueron Christian Carroll con su video "Un gran paso" y Karen Baldovino con su foto "Sol, arte y una sonrisa el domingo".

El 24 de marzo se organizó un fantástico  encuentro cultural que comenzó con la presentación del  Video Mundial “Quiero aprender “ y la Orquesta Sinfónica del Colegio Británico de Barranquilla, seguido por la presentación de una escena del circo teatral “ Clowdestino” de la compañía Vivaditeatro ,que hizo vibrar a niños y adultos. Las familias tuvieron la oportunidad de compartir y pasar una tarde maravillosa.

Así mismo fuimos anfitriones de  la Conferencia - Educación Inclusiva: Se puede? Se debe? Toca? A cargo del Dr. Jorge Eslava, Director del Instituto Colombiano de Neurociencias. Alrededor de 220 personas, entre padres y maestros  asistieron al evento y disfrutaron no sólo de la conferencia, sino también de la presentación del grupo de teatro de Fundown Caribe.

Una vez más damos las gracias a personas como usted que hicieron esto posible y le invitamos a seguir apoyando nuestra labor para construir un mundo mejor para las personas con síndrome de Down.
