Nankya Josephine, a Senior Two student, has suffered severe abdominal illness since 2023, now diagnosed as GERD, gastritis, and a Grade IV hiatus hernia requiring urgent surgery. Her condition has disrupted her education, despite her strong performance of a First Grade in the 2024 PLE. She comes from a vulnerable family led by a widowed mother earning less than $2 per day. The required medical care costs UGX 6,000,000 ($1,765), which her family and supporting organization cannot afford. Support
Josephine is suffering from a severe and long-misdiagnosed medical condition characterized by persistent abdominal pain, now identified as GERD, gastritis, and a Grade IV hiatus hernia. The condition has worsened over time due to delayed specialized care, leading to intense pain and complete disruption of her daily life and education. Without urgent surgical intervention, her health will continue to deteriorate, putting her life, wellbeing, and future at serious risk.
This project will address Josephine's condition by facilitating access to the specialized surgery required to treat her GERD, gastritis, and Grade IV hiatus hernia. It will cover the full cost of the surgical procedure, hospital care, necessary tests, and medications to ensure comprehensive treatment. By enabling timely medical intervention, the project will relieve her chronic pain and prevent further health complications. Post-operative care and follow-up will support her full recovery
The project will have a transformative long-term impact on Josephine's life by restoring her health and enabling her to resume her education without interruption. With proper treatment, she will regain her strength, improve her academic performance, and continue progressing toward her dream of becoming a nurse. This will not only improve her future economic prospects but also empower her to contribute positively to her community. Her recovery will reduce the financial and emotional burden
