This project will strengthen the commitment of 75 local women opinion leaders affected by conflicts and poverty caused by cyclical wars, with a view to promoting peace and community economic recovery, by strengthening their skills and empowerment, through the establishment and support of three Village Savings Loan Associations (VSLA) in the East of the DRC, specifically in Uvira.
According to the United Nations report published since January 8, 2025, more than 100,000 people have been displaced as a result of armed clashes in eastern DRC, which have become a means of economic and physical survival, creating a cycle of conflict and poverty. The continued extreme violence has eroded the fabric of society, making the functioning of the judicial system very difficult, which significantly compromises the resilience of communities and especially the empowerment of women.
1. Mobilize and raise awareness among 75 women community leaders 2. Train 75 women leaders in conflict management and community economic recovery techniques 3. Create and provide Starter Kits for 3 AVECs 4. Provide Starter Funds for the 3 AVECs 5. Provide technical support and monitoring of the 3 AVECs' operations 6. Close the cycle and conduct a participatory evaluation of the project.
This micro-project will provide Uvira's women leaders with concrete means to work towards peace and economic and financial independence, while creating a model of AVEC that can be replicated in other neighborhoods. It will also help build donor loyalty to FOCHI's parent project for follow-up and future actions.
This project has provided additional documentation in a DOCX file (projdoc.docx).
