The access to WASH is a human right. In Nepal however, millions of people lack access to basic water supply. Nepal Water for Health (NEWAH), an award winning NGO is developing and strengthening WASH (Water Sanitation and Hygiene) services and won't stop until everyone in the country, irrespective of gender, class, ethnicity or belief, is able to access their right to WASH. An essential part of NEWAH's work is carrying out research. Help NEWAH funding one of its major objectives.
Nepal is facing a severe water crisis: An increase in floods and landslides destroys water delivery systems; drinking water is contaminated by bacteria, viruses and protozoa, which results in epidemics and illnesses like diarrhea (the leading cause of death for children under five) and industrial pollutants and poor wastewater management as well as the washing of agricultural pesticides into rivers during monsoons contribute to the danger. The result: health risk and no access to water for many.
NEWAH's research activities in WASH (Water Sanitation and Hygiene) especially in rural areas of Nepal, where they provide local communities with clean drinking water and sanitation and teach them about sustainable water management, contribute to the process of solving the water crisis and help developing strategies for Nepal and the world.
The basis for sustainable development in WASH worldwide is knowledge accumulated through research. Carrying out research and communicating the findings on national and international levels is a long-term strategy.
