Rescuing Leftover Cuisine is thrilled to announce that as of October 21st, we have officially surpassed our annual goal of 2 million pounds of food rescued in 2022! You have been instrumental in this achievement by supporting staff, leading the charge on rescues, and helping develop our food rescue web-application to make food rescue efficient and enjoyable for Food Donors, Nonprofit Recipients, and Volunteers alike.
It can be hard to imagine the sheer scale of 2 million pounds of rescued food. What does 2 million pounds look like? 2 million pounds is equivalent to the weight of 80 school buses, 2 Airbus A380 passenger jets, or 6 blue whales. That's a lot of food diverted from landfills!
For RLC, 2 million pounds looks like 1,666,666 meals served to the people who need them, 750,000 pounds of carbon dioxide emissions prevented from landfills, and over 1,500 volunteers making a difference in our community.
