Pickups Throughout the Year
This year has been a great year for Rescuing Leftover Cuisine. One of our volunteers that has been volunteering with us since 2013 had this to say:
"I started volunteering with RLC when I was looking for ways to get involved with my community that made me feel like I was having a direct impact. I've had the opportunity to do many different routes in different neighborhoods, from Kips Bay down to FiDi, and while it's pretty easy to fall into a routine there have definitely been some interesting evenings!
I was very glad when RLC invested in carts around the city because in the past I'd ended rescuing garbage bags full of bagels using the subway because they were too heavy for me and the other volunteer. I also remember a particularly long delivery when we got turned away from our usual drop off location and ended up having to carry trays of food an extra mile to a last minute substitute drop off.
But generally it's been amazing to watch RLC grow. We have so many more restaurant partners, and there are networks in place to take advantage of the growing pool of lead rescuers to make sure that routes are always covered. One of the best things is that I can't remember the last time I ended up on a route without enough help because there are so many volunteers!" - Christine
Your support has made this growth possible, and allows volunteers like Christine to see the improvements we have been able to make with your donations. I remember days after leaving JPMorgan where I would just do pickups with no cart on foot all night and try and answer emails to get partnerships throughout the day. We definitely have come a long way, but we know we still have a lot of work to do when we do not yet work with even 5% of restaurants in the area we operate in. With everything we've done however, we know that we're building a solid foundation upon which to grow, and your support is making that happen. Thank you so much! We are looking forward to an even greater 2018 and are excited for more to come!
