GlobalGiving Team Visit TAHUDE in Arusha, Tanzania

It was so AMAZING and very exciting to receive visitors from the GlobalGiving Headquarters in U.S.A. They conducted training to 30 partners and we had a join lunch. It was such a happy in historical day in our organization.

For our biogas project this quarter:

i. Four (4) Biodigesters are completed

ii Four (4) Clients submitted their forms

iii. Twelve (12) will submit their forms anytime from now.

Though it is a rainy season in which we are facing challenges in biodigester construction, we did our best to conduct marketing in Mbulu, Arusha DC, and Meru Districts. At present TAHUDE is well known by other institutions (NGOs) and biogas construction companies. We have been invited to attend training where we met other stakeholders and did significant marketing for biogas loans. We have started marketing in Mbulu District, where we met with twelve (12) people and two have already submitted their forms; ten are in pipeline. Also we met with District Cooperation Officer who promised to organize official meeting with registered groups in Mbulu District and to invite TAHUDE Team for marketing. In Arusha we are receiving a lot of applications from individuals and groups. One of the Church Elders (name reserved) invited TAHUDE to conduct marketing program to (NATAJEWO) women group at Ngaramtoni. The women were very interested to the biogas project. We agreed to meet again to fill their application forms.

Many good things are happening in Tanzania – THANKS for your relentless support for our initiatives. Our community future is very bright than ever before. GOD BLESS YOU!

Inspire and Empower Centre - boost by the AWARD
Inspire and Empower Centre - boost by the AWARD

In addition to our regular reports on the BIOGAS Project, this quarter we have a breaking news about the award given to our Director, Dr. Askwar Hilonga.

We are glad that our partnership with the United States Africa Development Foundation (USADF) is getting stronger as we implement the second phase of the biogas project for the underserved communities in Tanzania. By Feb 2019 we have reached more than 100 household beneficiaries in the following Districts: Karatu, Mbulu, Arusha DC, Arusha City, and Arumeru.

THANKS to all our supporters through GlobalGiving who sustain our activities and gave us credibility to be trusted and engage in further partnership with other reputable organizations.

LAST BUT NOT LEAST, we are so happy that our Director Dr. Hilonga has just received an award by Johnson & Johnson Company, U.S.A. It is called Champions of Science Africa Storytelling Challenge. The award included $5,000 and a 5 days trip to Washington DC, U.S to receive the award and attend the American Association for Advancement of Science (AAAS) meeting.

This is one of the links to the announcement of Hilonga's award:

The award ($5,000) will contribute to the construction of the Inspire and Empower Enterprise Training Centre in Arusha - Tanzania.

We are sure that this will inspire many young people in African and around the world who are coming from challenging economic background: YOUR PAST DOES NOT DETERMINE YOUR FUTURE!

Employees at Nanofilter office in Arusha Tanzania
Employees at Nanofilter office in Arusha Tanzania

This is a breaking news to all who supported our growth since Dec 2010! At last we have moved to our own new office in Njiro Arusha Tanzania. The office has increased our reputation and visibility - it has attracted the attention of our beneficiaries and partners from all around the world. Within 2 months after moving to our new office, we already received a good number of visitors - including tourists who are visiting Tanzania. Most of the visitors (about 100) came from Germany, UK, USA, France, and South Korea. From their stories I learnt that most of the tourists wish to make an impact to the people in rural communities but they don't get a proper guidance or direct way to make impact. Our new office now serves as a coordination point for anyone who wishes to make impact to our community in a transparent and "value for money" approach. Please kindly feel free to contact me (hilonga@gmail.com; +255764574919 - also available on WhatsApp) if you are interested on how we can partner for bigger impact to people who need our service in rural Tanzania - people who cannot write to you directly, as you read from me now. I am determined to be a bridge between those people (who need our service) and you.

Our three main services are:

(i). Low-cost water filter (Nanofilter),

(ii). Cow-dung based BIOGAS, and

(iii). Solar Lantern for School Children.

We also conduct inspiration and empowerment (business training) to young people in Tanzania. At your convenience, please kindly see how we can work together. Along with this report, please enjoy some few photos of our team of 65 young Tanzanians working with me (employees) and some visitors to our new office.

Star-TV covering the Biogas Project in Mbulu
Star-TV covering the Biogas Project in Mbulu

This quarter we reached another milestone of introducing our biogas project in new District of Mbulu in Manyara Region - Tanzania.

Our progress this quarter:

i. Four (4) biogas are completed

ii. Four (4) biogas construction is ongoing

iii. Eight (8) have submitted their forms and six (6) will submit by next week.

Our target was to complete 20 biogas systems but the weather condition (it was the rain season) limited our operations. Now the rain has ended - we are moving fast, from July 2018.

In this quarter we were able to conduct the first public marketing and training session in Mbulu District, Manyara Region. The program was accompanied by reforestation program in which we distributed a total of 540 trees to all 108 people who attended. The program was covered by media, as shown in the below link and a representative photo.

Also we established a good networking with other NGOs and got training on a remote sensor installation. As explained above, our main challenge in this quarter was the "rain season". But it is over now. We have agree with the district agriculture officer and district cooperative officer of Mbulu district to organize a training to all Mbulu cooperative members to sensitize them through their groups. This will give us access to hundreds of members of those cooperative groups.

With your support, we are planning to hit our target of 700 beneficiaries by end of 2020. Please kindly see how you can assist us to scale-up our campaign. There are many ways you can help us - not only through financial support. Please kindly let us know how you would like to be involved more. Write to my email: hilonga@gmail.com or Phone call: 255764574919 (also on WhatsApp)

I humbly submit

Hilonga

American students visiting Tanzania - 2018
American students visiting Tanzania - 2018

This quarter we received 3 groups of American students from different Universities (about 100 students and their Professors) who visited our activities in Tanzania. Before going to the field, I made a PPT presentation at our office (shown in the photo below). I narrated the history of our organization (established since 2010) and our journey until 2018. All students were impressed and most of them wanted to go to the field and meet our beneficiaries. So we demonstrated what we do and allowed them to visit the beneficiary communities with Arusha region, Tanzania. Students were so excited to meet happy beneficiaries everywhere we work.

Some of the students promised to support our activities in different ways: 1. Online marketing, 2. Publicity, 3. Posting and supporting our activities on social media - Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, etc. 4. Coming back for internship in Tanzania 5. Fundraising ........... as demonstrated by the email I just received from one of them:

"Dear ...................(me),

I have not given up on the idea to come to Tanzania! Unfortunately, it is very difficult to obtain funding via world famous scholarships due to rigid application deadlines and incredibly high competition. But, I HAVE A BETTER IDEA! I am going to do my personal fundraising!! I am graduating from Wellesley, and the area where the college is located is very wealthy. Many people in this area do a lot of good for different communities in need. I have met some affluent people in my time as a student and I will reach out to every family I know who could help me to host fundraising events! But I will need your advice: Can we please talk on Skype during one of the weekends? I want to go over logistics of a presentation that I have in mind: I want to make the most impactful presentation!! I am positive I can make it!!
Thank you,
............................... (her name)".
