This program is to make remote reading education available for the left-behind children who study in elementary school in poor areas of China. As reading fellows, volunteers will record children audiobooks, using their voices to send care, raise their interest of reading, develop literacy skills and get inspiration from the content. We will also complement cartoon booksmarks, physical books, portable audio players and e-education materials for schools to formalize the reading education course.
In China rural poverty areas, there are a lots of left-behind children, especially those under the age of 10, whose literacy and speech skills are underdeveloped due to insufficient reading education resources. Local schools mostly don't have age-appropriate books, like picture books to develop their interest or habit in reading. Besides, tutoring resources are inadequate. Many children's parents work in the cities and are not around. Teachers' capacities are also very limited.
It is planned to link society resources to donate reading material packages and education supplies to local primary schools to setup suitable reading environment for left-behind children in poverty. Lesson plans/materials are also available for school teachers. With audio book reading and donate voice, volunteer seats as reading fellows will be provided to public remotely.
10 elementary schools will be sponsored with Remote Reading Fellows and open reading class; 10 school libraries will be rebuilt. The project is aimed to benefit over 1500 left-behind children, and provide 200 volunteering opportunities to public with estimated 1000+ volunteering hours.
The Government of People’s Republic of China has implemented new regulations for foreign NGOs operating in China.
