In response to COVID-19, PEOF+ Amun Shea is re-imagining rural education for 120 Salvadoran youth and their families. Online and offline, we provide students with hands-on, problem-based learning opportunities that address the real issues faced in rural El Salvador, like climate change, food insecurity, and poor water quality. Your donation ignites our students' dreams and supports our amazing staff.
COVID-19 has created the largest disruption of education in history with rural areas in low-income countries being hit the hardest, like here in Northern Morazan, El Salvador. This new challenge exacerbates existing realities of poverty, climate change, food insecurity, low-quality education, & internet inequality in the region. This project will elevate the education and nutrition of more than 120 students and their families who live in rural Northern Morazan, El Salvador.
Tailored to the COVID-19 crisis, PEOF+ Amun Shea provides organic vegetables, nutritious recipes, and problem-based learning opportunities to students online & offline. From the creation of family vegetable gardens to the guidance and implementation of at-home scientific experiments conducted by students to study how to decontaminate local water supplies and create ecological solutions that protect food crops, PEOF + Amun Shea re-imagines what rural education can be, even in the face of crisis.
Rural education adjusted to a COVID-19 reality that is focused on solving socioeconomic obstacles while also attending to students' nutritional needs will not only open doors for our 120 students and their families at Amun Shea but for all students in rural El Salvador as our school's model serves as a revolutionary prototype. Amun Shea students will become innovative thinkers and powerful agents of change who will be responsible for long-term, positive improvements in community development.
