Elaf RD is proud to report the successful rehabilitation of Al-Zaka School in Hama Governorate in Syria, an initiative that has brought hope and opportunity back to the lives of 1,500 returnee children. Before the intervention, the school had suffered significant damage due to the conflict, leaving classrooms, WASH facilities, and essential learning spaces unusable. Children in the area were unable to continue their education in a safe and supportive environment, and the school’s closure had a profound impact on both students and teachers.
Through the rehabilitation process, classrooms were carefully restored, ensuring that walls, floors, and ceilings were safe and suitable for learning. WASH facilities were renovated, providing students with clean and hygienic toilets, handwashing stations, and reliable access to water. The school was also furnished with new desks, chairs, and blackboards, and essential educational materials, including textbooks and stationery, were supplied to support teaching and learning. Recreational spaces were improved, giving children safe areas to play and interact, which is critical for their psychosocial well-being.
With these efforts, 1,500 children have returned to school, eager to resume their studies and regain a sense of normalcy in their daily lives. Teachers and school staff now have the tools and infrastructure needed to deliver effective education. Beyond the physical improvements, the rehabilitation has had a meaningful impact on the community, restoring confidence in education and providing children with hope for the future.
