Restore Safe Classrooms in Syria

Since the last project report, SIVIL IDARE DERNEGI has continued the preparation phase for the “War-Damaged Schools Rehabilitation in Syria” project. The project has not yet moved into physical rehabilitation activities because the funds received through GlobalGiving remain very limited and are not sufficient to begin a responsible school-level intervention.

During this reporting period, the team focused on reviewing the rehabilitation needs identified during the initial preparation stage. Priority needs remain centered on damaged classrooms, broken doors and windows, inadequate WASH facilities, limited school furniture, and shortages of basic educational materials. These conditions continue to affect the safety, dignity, and learning environment of children who are trying to continue their education despite years of conflict and displacement.

The project team also continued coordination with local education stakeholders and community representatives to keep the project ready for implementation once funding becomes available. This preparation helps ensure that the first phase of rehabilitation can focus on the most urgent and practical improvements, such as classroom repairs, sanitation improvements, essential utilities, furniture, and learning materials.

At this stage, no rehabilitation works have been completed yet under this project. However, the project remains active, and the implementation plan is ready to be launched once sufficient funding is secured. SIVIL IDARE DERNEGI will continue to provide transparent updates to donors, including details on selected schools, rehabilitation works completed, and the number of children reached once activities begin.
