Summary

At the Pay it Forward Foundation we believe people, who get in a wheelchair as a result of an accident can live independently. We can't let sorrow, loneliness and helplessness ruin their lives. It is important to provide rehabilitation and therapy ASAP. That's why we are creating Janaszkowo Settlement in Poland. The rehabilitation center will be situated in the underground. We still need furniture and special equipment to provide regular, specialized treatments for over 60 disabled people a year.

Challenge

We've been supporting people with disabilities since 2004. Our regular help is free-of-cost used by over 200 people a year. The number of requests for support is increasing. There is also a growing number of people who get in a wheelchair as a result of an accident. The experience of our wheelchair users shows that the sooner a person starts exercising after an accident, the sooner they will return to functioning. Our tragedy is that we cannot help everyone because we do not have a place for it!

Solution

We made a decision to find a larger building to support people whose disability hinders or prevents independent life. Wasosze is not a random place. It is history, because here Dr. Piotr Janaszek, our Patron organized one of the first camps for disabled children in Poland (late 70s). We divided Janaszkowo Settlement into several parts, each has its own specific purpose. We are just about starting the rehabilitation part - it's the first stage of the renovation. The living area will be next.

Long-Term Impact

The lives of many disabled people, who permanently stay at home, will change in Janaszkowo Settlement. 60 disabled people a year (from the whole country) will be diagnosed and get regular and specialized treatments free-of-cost. After a few months of intensive work, many of them will return to functioning and will start living again.
