Happy New Year supporters!
It was a slow quarter last quarter for fundraising, with only a slow trickle of donations coming through…. However, it is a new year, and we hope that this time creates a new pool of supporters for this project.
We are delighted to announce that we will continue to work with OMASI in 2023, thanks to funding from Innovate UK. We will be working on new solar water systems within the area, to provide access to water for an affordable price and using clean energy. However, the project funding does not cover the cost of the new water system in Terat, and we need extra financial assistance in order to rejuvenate this vital facility for the community.
Water continues to be a huge issue across Northern Tanzania, due to unpredictable rainfall and drought being commonplace in the area. This year has been especially dry, and we are concerned for the wellbeing of the people in the community and their livestock, which often form the epicentre of community members’ livelihoods.
We still have a long way to go to reach our fundraising target, so please share this project within your personal network and on your social media channel to rally more support and donations for this vitally important project.
Your support will help us bring this facility back to life, in a time when is it is needed the most by the community.
All the best,
Iona
Dear supporters,
The need for a reliable water source in Terrat is more significant than ever, especially in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The dry season was extremely challenging this year, with a huge number of cattle dying due to droughts, which threatens the livelihoods of the local Maasai community. Donations have been equally as dry, but we hope that they will come trickling in again this quarter.
This borehole has the potential to be highly impactful for a number of people in the community, as it is conveniently located next to both the local health centre and school in Terrat, hence it will reap benefits for a multiple of groups within the community. For the school, it will provide essential sanitation for the pupils and staff, as well as a source of safe drinking water. In addition, it will transform the functionality of the health centre, which already supports more than 20,000 people in the surrounding area.
We still have a long way to go to reach our fundraising target, so please share this project within your personal network and on your social media channel to rally more support and donations for this vitally important project.
Your donations will be greatly appreciated by us and the community in Terrat. We hope to give updates on more progress in the next quarter, and to soon get started with the rehabilitation once enough donations come through. Thank you to everyone who has supported this project so far!
All the best,
Iona
Dear Friends,
It has been another slow fundraising quarter, and the community in Terrat still class water as their no 1 priority. At least in the last quarter the rains have finally come, bringing the drought to an end. But many cattle died, jeopardising the livelihoods of the Maasai, and some were forced to migrate away to places with better grazing. The area will slowly recover, but as the dry season approaches yet again, a good community water system will be of paramount importance.
Your generous donations help us support the community to achieve this. As ever, if you would like to share the project link with friends and family, we and the community ofTerrat would be extremely grateful! Thank you in advance!
We look forward to sharing more updates with you soon!

Hello friends,
Thank you for your generosity so far in this project to help rehabilitate the community water system in Terrat, Tanzania. The need has never been as pressing. During November and December, this part of East Africa expects the 'little rains' to come. Sadly, for the third year running, the weather has been disrupted. Last year there was too much rain - there was flooding and crops were washed away. This year, the rains have failed. Only two or three days of showers have been experienced since June.
This makes access to water from boreholes even more important for the local population. The problems of the lack of rain are much wider - they have been unable to plant the usual crops. Normally beans would have been planted in November/December, for harvest in January/February, that would help feed familes throughout next year. But the soil is hard and dry, and nothing can be grown for now. This also means that there is little food for the cattle upon which the Maasai also rely, and cows are reporting as dying in their thousands.
So as you see, helping with the local water system is of the utmost urgency. As ever, if you would like to share this project with friends and family, we and the people of Terrat would be extremely grateful.
We thank you for your support so far, and look forward to updating you soon!
