Dear Friends,

Thank you for your continued support to reach the needy communities of Nepal. Your action of kindness has reached Himalayan communities with essential needs like health, education and livelihood. While working at the communities for years with your continued support, we realized that the needs of the persons living with disabilities are unique and needs special attention.

At Himalayan communities’ persons with disabilities are mostly confined to their homes with no access to basic assistive devices, physiotherapy services, awareness on rights and services from the government and they are taken as a fate for the family. Where people have to walk days to reach the nearest health facility. One can only imagine what the situation is for them with no access to basic infrastructures.

Here are few cases of people who reached at PHASE for special need support:

Ram Kumar 35 year’s old (changed name) is a person living with visual impartment from Dolakha district of Nepal. He lives with his elder brother who is mentally challenged, an elderly mother, who has the responsibility for managing the whole family’s and a younger brother.

His family recently received roofing sheets from us. But still, his family is at dire need for meeting daily needs and to repay his father’s health cost. For which his has approached PHASE Nepal to support for goat farm, which he wants to build as a stable source of income for his family.

The next case is from Bajura district, Bichhya which is reached through 6-7 hours of hill walk. In that community lives 22 years old Sajana (changed name), where along with her, her father and elder brother are visually impaired by birth. At her family one of her sister and a little brother has the responsibility of her family.

Likewise, there are several families with multiple members with disabilities. They are unaware about the possibility of their treatment, and possibility of making life easy with the use of assistive equipment.

Through this project we target 1000 person living with disabilities like them who are in compelling need of basic health, physiotherapy, assistive services and livelihood requirements close to their homes, hence, improving their overall social, mental and physical health.

We also aim to change the perceptions regarding person living with disabilities, educate communities on their basic constitutional rights and the allowances/facilities they should receive from the government.

For this cause we hope for your help in reaching home-bound people living with disabilities and meet special need at Himalayan communities.

Thank you
